We had loads of achievements to celebrate this week, firstly in welcoming Joshua Taylor to our Sunday run, and then in congratulating Brendan Dawson, Jamie Weller, Sean Weller & Oscar Schirmer for getting personal bests!
We had loads of volunteers let us know in advance so that we could plan the event and make sure that it went ahead – thank you all!
To celebrate mine and Andrew’s run to raise money for PAK, and the fantastic acts of generosity from you guys in helping us reach £2700 we were surprised by a special Potteries Active Kids cake!

We decided to go ahead this week with only a handful of marshal volunteers’. We asked the parents if they were happy to run alongside the kids so that we didn’t have to turn them away. There were plenty of smiles on this unusal 2k timed run. We welcomed 3 new runners and happy to say we had 3 Personal Bests too. A great morning saw a fantastic 25 Active Kids turn up to tackle the 2k distance with the inspiration of two of our regular adults – parent Dean Richardson, and one of the organisers Sarah Thorne.
Whilst Potteries Active Kids is all about the kids, it’s great to recognise that we are striving to inspire them as often as we can, so this week I mentioned Sarah Thorne’s epic achievement last week!
She has always claimed to “swim like a brick” and so after long arduous sessions spent in the pool learning to swim properly – quite a daunting task to those who weren’t born with fins for hands and feet, and working extra hard at her cycling and running, she last week completed her first triathlon!!
I say first, because she loved it and said it was great fun, so no doubt she’ll be back for more
torture, sorry, fun!!
Dean Richardson meanwhile, went to the European Championships last week, where he competed in the 1500M race, where he won silver medal to retain his position as the second fastest old man in Europe over 1500m with a spectacular time of 4 minutes and 7 seconds!!!!
Fresh from the race, he then came along today to be the front runner, and give the kids a target to chase in the hope of beating their personal bests!
It must be in the family genes, because his son went and won today’s race in 9 minutes and 11 seconds! Continue reading “6th August 2017”
